Custom-made seat and back cushion for a modern, simple dining room bench made of oak wood – fastened with velcro

The customers have a bench to go with their new dining table. They would like to have (round) felt seat cushions made for this (and other chairs). However, they have not found a suitable solution for the backrest of the bench. The carpenter's hanging cushions for the backrest are too bulky and do not match the intended round seat cushions in terms of either color or shape. So they asked us for back cushions, which are attached to the back of the backrest with Velcro ...

The seat cushions and back cushions should be round and colorful:

The customers first ordered felt samples to choose from. They then opted for a colorful mix in the colors denim, mustard, petrol and dark red mixed. This creates a friendly and colorful design. The underside or reverse side of all the cushions should be dark gray so as not to make the dining room too restless. The customers also didn't want to completely cover up the natural beauty of their wooden bench, so one long bench cushion and one long wall cushion were out of the question. That's why they wanted the cushions to be "round" …

Personal advice

In order to design the right product for the customer, direct contact is important for such custom-made products. In a personal telephone consultation, our idea for the attachment and the size of the back cushions was clarified. We then made an easily comprehensible offer. To ensure that our mounting solution worked perfectly, we first manufactured and tested one cushion in advance before producing the others.

This is how the round back cushions are attached to the bench:

Attach the round backrest cushions without drilling or screwing: The backrest cushions should be slidable, and it should be possible to remove them again so that no drill or screw holes are left. To ensure that the cushions adhere firmly to the backrest of the bench, we have inserted a felt strip with extra strong Velcro into the cushions. With a width of 50 mm and a generous overlap, the Velcro covers almost the entire back of the backrest - for a stable hold. The Velcro has been attached to the cushions so that it faces inwards and you don't get caught on it with your sweater.

What are the bench seat cushions and back cushions made of?

Like all our cushions, the seat cushions and wall cushions are made of high-quality wool felt from pure new wool, combined with extra-firm foam. High-quality seams in the same color as the cushions show the attention to detail and the werktat fabric label completes the design.
